Description:
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Alberta (http://psychiatry.med.ualberta.ca/), in partnership with Recovery Alberta (http://www.recoveryalbertas.ca/), Edmonton Zone, Addiction and Mental Health, is inviting applications for two (2) academic/tenured track Academic Medicine and Health Service Program (AMHSP) positions for a child and adolescent psychiatrist. Candidates will also be strongly interested in medical education and/or research.
Unlike traditional academic positions, AMHSP positions are unique opportunities that allow for the development of a viable academic career in conjunction with a clinical career. Competitively funded protected time for education and/or research is embedded in all AMHSP positions.
Recovery Alberta and the University of Alberta jointly oversee the AMHSP. The candidate(s) selected for this position will be referred to the AMHSP Arrangement Management Committee to finalize their yearly individual service agreement, which the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Addiction and Mental Health, Recovery Alberta jointly approved.
The clinical component of these positions will include community child and adolescent psychiatry clinics and development of services with, and for, primary care providers. These services will emphasize primary care of child psychiatry patients and unique rural populations, including indigenous communities. Consultative, urgent care, and emergency care services outside of large centres are also a priority. We are seeking motivated clinicians who are interested in direct care and who are also highly motivated in development of systems and team-based delivery of care to reach communities and families outside of large centres.
The successful candidate will actively participate in medical education and/or research. In addition to post-graduate residency training, the Department has commitments to education as a part of the MD Program with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, providing pre-clinical and clinical teaching for core and elective experiences for undergraduate MD students.
Remuneration:
Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP). Further details about this innovative funding plan are available on request.
Qualifications:
Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons as a Psychiatrist with subspecialty training and/or designation in child and adolescent psychiatry. Preference will be given to psychiatrists with previous interest in and/or additional medical education and/or research training. The positions will allow up to 0.5 FTE for medical education or research; the remaining FTE will be clinical services with AHS.
Please visit the College of Physicians and Surgeons Alberta (CPSA) at https://cpsa.ca for more information about licensing in Alberta. Please ensure you have had your credentials assessed and have an Eligibility Letter from CPSA prior to applying.
