Gender Affirming Surgeon

Required qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and additional fellowship training in gender affirming surgery. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta. 

The successful candidate will be joining the department of Surgery. Applications will be considered from surgeons in urology or other surgical disciplines (eg. plastic surgery) if they have the requisite fellowship training and experience.

This position is for a surgeon who will advance the goals of the Alberta Adult Gender Surgical Program by providing clinical care and leadership in program development for adult transgender Albertans requiring lower body surgery.  Working with a multidisciplinary team, the surgeon will lead the development of a surgical program that will streamline assessment, provide expert surgical care to optimize clinical outcomes, and provide continuity of care during recovery.

The ideal candidate will be a surgeon who has been trained in gender affirming surgery and has experience in performing these procedures and in program development. The specific procedures include vaginoplasty, vulvoplasty, metoidioplasty, and phalloplasty.

This surgeon will be expected to contribute to the development of a broader based gender affirmation program in Alberta.
