Job Summary:
The Quality and Healthcare Improvement portfolio is looking for a Medical Director, Accreditation to provide medical leadership for continuous quality improvement and patient safety through the accreditation process.
As part of Quality and Healthcare Improvement portfolio, the Accreditation Department supports the organization to fulfill its accountability to provide safe, high quality patient care through adherence to Accreditation Canada standards and implementation of Required Organizational Practices (ROPs). The Medical Director supports a physician engagement strategy that advances physician understanding and participation in the AHS accreditation process.
- Accreditation Canada’s Standards allow health service organizations to embed practical and effective quality improvement and patient safety initiatives into their daily operations. The standards focus on organizational support to meet the needs of patients and clients across the continuum of care.
- ROPs are essential practices that organizations must have in place to enhance patient safety and minimize risk.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
The Medical Director, Accreditation, in collaboration with the Executive Director, Accreditation, is responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining effective, collaborative linkages as appropriate with internal and external stakeholders and partners,
- Directing and guiding the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of the AHS accreditation approach,
- Leading change and integration of quality and patient safety accreditation related initiatives in medical education,
- Championing physician engagement for ROPs and the accreditation process,
- Representing the accreditation perspective on designated Committees or Working Groups,
- Obtaining/maintaining status as an Accreditation Canada Surveyor, and
- Participating in and supporting Continuing Medical Education related to accreditation.
Reporting Relationship:
The practitioner will report to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, Physician Experience.

Qualifications and Required Attributes:
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency and shall have or be eligible for certification with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
The successful applicant must obtain and maintain Accreditation Canada Surveyor status.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior training and participation in accreditation is an asset.
