Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Corridor invites applications for the role of Medical Lead, Child Health Patient Flow.

 

This 0.20 FTE position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Associate Corridor Medical Lead (ACML), Patient Flow, Emergency Initiatives, Quality and Emergency Medicine and the Associate Corridor Medical Lead, Child Health Hospital Expansion, and Ambulatory.  The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that standards of care are being met in the department and that support for research and teaching is available.

 

The Medical Lead is responsible for the execution of strategic initiatives supporting patient flow as outlined by the ACML Patient flow, ACML Child Health and the Edmonton Zone Demand Capacity Executive Committee.  The successful candidate will also support the development of a clear strategic plan for senior leadership with a focus on child health programs. 

 

Other major responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Edmonton Zone Short Term Escalation Plans (EZ-STEP) 
    • Work with Physician Leads for the child health programs (on-site) 
  • To implement EZ-STEP, and Rapid rounds 
    • Work with Medical Informatics Leads for child health programs to ensure alignment of connect care workflow and data extraction in support of EZ-STEP 
    • Support ongoing development and improvement of EZ-STEP actions, by identifying opportunities to continue to improve patient flows. 
  • Bed Service Mapping 
    • Working to support Bed Service Mapping in the child health program areas, including regional /provincial partners in child health. 
  • Working with IOC Physician Lead and IOC team: 
    • Assist Stollery Children’s Hospital and child health programs with daily demand and capacity challenges.
    • Support real time capacity reporting, monitoring, planning, analytics in support of real time patient flow decision making. 
  • Engage and collaborate: 
    • Collaborate with Hospital Medical Directors / Corridor Clinical Department Leads / Physician Leaders / Physicians 
    • Identify opportunities to alter physician staffing to improve patient flow and physician wellness 
    • Work through RAAPID protocols to ensure provision of timely, high-quality patient care while respecting current challenging physician environment and fee structures 
    • Identify previously unappreciated barriers to patient flow 

       

 

The position has an expected term of 2 years.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety working as a part of a leadership team. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.

 

Candidates must be registered or eligible for registration with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, eligible to work in Canada, and be eligible for or have current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
