 Addiction Medicine, Concurrent Disorder Unit, Calgary

An exciting position with a specialized focus in addiction medicine currently exists within Recovery Alberta. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care to individuals with substance use disorders, offering immediate access to evidence-informed addiction treatment in. If your practice aligns with our clinical foundations of being recovery-oriented, strength-based, and hope-inspired, this may be the opportunity for you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The CDU will provide inpatient care to individuals presenting with severe and persistent mental illness and severe substance use disorders. The goal of the CDU is to provide medical withdrawal and concurrent disorder treatment to individuals so that they may pursue recovery.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide medical services including assessments, follow-up care, treatment planning/referrals, ordering lab & imaging tests, writing/reviewing prescriptions, and treatment of co-occurring substance use disorders.

The successful candidate should be or apply for an Academic appointment with the University of Alberta or the University of Calgary Psychiatry Department and help with teaching Residents and students that come to the area.

Multiple positions with various FTE based on availability.

Qualifications:

·       The successful candidate will have an MD, with a CCFP or FRCPC designation, will be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta

·       will hold a methadone license.

·       Experience with addictions, opioid dependency and an ability to effectively manage patients in crisis are definite assets.

·       Physicians who currently hold addiction medicine certification, have relevant training or have a keen interest in learning addiction medicine are encouraged to express interest.

Start July 2026
