The Department of Medicine (DOM) at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone invites applications for a full-time sub-specialist in Transplant Medicine to lead the Section/Division of Transplant Medicine and the AHS Southern Alberta Transplant program. The position is accountable to provide effective direction and scholarly support for patient care, quality improvement (QI), research, and education within the Section/Division and Calgary Zone.

 The role requires a commitment to the Section/Division of Transplant Medicine and the Southern Alberta Transplant program over other activities and responsibilities. A suitable candidate will lead the provision of innovative clinical services focused on improving the care for the growing population of patients with solid organ transplant across the province, as well as enhancing the Research, Medical Education and QI mandate of the Section/Division

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current DOM or DoC (Division/Section of Cardiology) member with a career focus in Transplant Medicine (cardiac, kidney, lung, or liver)
  • MD, FRCPC (Internal Medicine) and RCPSC sub-specialty
  • Specialist licensure in the province of Alberta
  • Established reputation for clinical excellence as a consultant
  • Strategic thinker with medical, administrative and leadership experience
  • Essential qualities include strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience with change management, and an ability to engage stakeholders and make decisions in a transparent manner. Demonstrated skills in team building, collaboration, mentorship, sponsorship and conflict resolution are required. The successful candidate will be expected to lead in the promotion of equity and diversity within the Section/Division.
  • The successful candidate should have evidence of strong clinical acumen, leadership and scholarly productivity in the areas of research, medical education, QI/safety and/or health policy. A successful track record in teaching is desirable.
  • The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Must read, write, and speak English.
