Alberta Health Services is actively recruiting independently licensed physicians to join the Orthopedic Surgical Care Team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), a site undergoing major, exciting transformation in how orthopedic ward services are delivered.

Physicians recruited will play a key role in shaping the future in a Most-Responsible-Physician (MRP) Surgical Hospitalist model, launching in 2026. Joining at this stage means you will directly influence high-responsiveness workflows, culture, and patient‑care innovations within one of Alberta’s busiest urban hospitals.

Multiple positions are available, both part time and full time.  Schedules include a mix of day, evening, and night shifts—designed to support flexible staffing and strong team coverage. Preferences will be discussed with qualified applicants. 

 


About the Role

The Surgical Hospitalist provides comprehensive medical care for admitted orthopedic surgical patients, both elective and emergent. The hospitalist leads day‑to‑day medical management of surgical patients, helps drive patient flow, and ensures timely diagnostics and ongoing clinical support.

This is an ideal role for a physician who thrives in acute inpatient medicine, enjoys close collaboration, values work-life flexibility, and is energized by the challenge of building and refining a new model of care.


What You’ll Do

  • Complete admissions, daily rounds, and consultations
  • Manage existing ward patients on a 24-hour basis in conjunction with other first-line provider support
  • Work within a robust, multidisciplinary team to support patient care plans
  • Order investigations, follow results, and ensure timely patient flow
  • Participate in discharge planning and documentation
  • Occasionally assist with basic orthopedic procedures or outpatient clinics
