The successful candidate will be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an MD, FRCPC, possess a specialist certificate or equivalent in Critical Care Medicine, and be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The successful candidate will have received advanced training in epidemiology or related health research methods (i.e., Graduate Studies Program [Masters or PhD]) and a proven record of academic achievement demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications (i.e., achieving at least 50 peer-reviewed publications to date, with the majority as first or senior author), research awards and success at grant funding applications. The successful candidate will have experience in the design and conduct of clinical trials and have advanced knowledge of biostatistics.

The position aims to recruit an independent researcher and clinician scientist to strengthen and collaborate with a growing faculty within the Department. The selected candidate will have 50% of their position protected for research with opportunity to increase further. Establishment funds will be available to support a qualified candidate commensurate with their qualifications. The selected candidate will be expected to develop and lead innovative and collaborative investigator-initiated research and to further facilitate research across the Edmonton Zone. The selected candidate will be given opportunity to leverage the unique infrastructure of Alberta Health Services’ Critical Care Strategic Clinical Network™ and the eCritical Alberta clinical information system and data repository to facilitate their research program. The selected candidate will be expected to foster collaboration with national and international research groups, such as the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group. The candidate is expected to apply for external research and salary support (e.g., Canadian Institutes of Health Research operating grants), work to expand the Department’s research capacity, and to supervise and mentor clinical learners, graduate students and emerging faculty.
