Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) South Sector is seeking a qualified full time Anatomic or General Pathologist with Fellowship training or equivalent experience in Cytopathology at the Diagnostic and Scientific Centre (DSC), Calgary, Alberta. This position will join a group of general and anatomical pathologists, medical microbiologists and clinical chemists providing laboratory services at DSC. The successful candidate is required to have excellent skills in both Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology.
Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) as a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS), is a multi-site, sole provider of comprehensive laboratory services in the province of Alberta. The depth and breadth of medical expertise results in a premium level of testing quality, service, follow up care, and support to our customers and their patients while ensuring the safety, accessibility, and stability of laboratory services.
Calgary Zone, APL, processes 30+ million tests, 260,000 surgical specimens, 200,000 gynecologic cytology specimens, and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in a setting with a similar case complexity.
APL also has an affiliation agreement with the University of Calgary (UofC). Depending on the qualifications of the applicant, there are opportunities to practice in a sub-specialty environment while participating in clinical and/or basic research activities. Teaching and interaction with a wide range of learners from undergraduate through postgraduate studies including residents from anatomical and general pathology are expected.
Job Summary & Responsibilities
The General or Anatomical Pathologist must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs.
The Anatomical Pathologist / General Pathologist with Cytopathology will report directly to the Diagnostic and Scientific Centre Site Chief, DSC, in Calgary who in turn reports to the Sector Medical Director, South Sector (APL) and the provincial Chief Medical Laboratory Officer.
Qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta with certification in Anatomic Pathology, Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology or General Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Pathology. Cytopathology Fellowship training and/or years of experience in cytopathology specialty practice and collaborative practice is required. The ability to contribute collegially to the group practice and laboratory operations will be an important factor in candidate selection. The successful incumbent will also be required to obtain the appropriate professional liability coverage.
