Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a full time Anatomical or General Pathologist at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH) located in the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta. The successful candidate will be part of a team of four laboratory pathologists. Duties include anatomical/general pathology with some consultation in blood bank, hematology, accession, and point of care services; the provision of 1:4 on call coverage, cytopathology, intradepartmental and interdepartmental consultations, and frozen section.

Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH) has 213 beds providing patient-centered care in south-eastern Alberta offering a full range of healthcare services, including a 24/7 emergency department, acute care, intensive care and neonatal intensive care, kidney care clinic, cardio-respiratory services, and more. MHRH is home to the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre. APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory organization providing comprehensive laboratory services and is an independent, but publicly funded organization that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Job Summary & Responsibilities

Anatomical/General Pathologists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, must provide departmental on call coverage as required, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching.

The Anatomical/General Pathologist will report directly to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH) Site Chief, who in turn reports to the Sector Medical Director, South Sector (APL) and the provincial Chief Medical Laboratory Officer.

Qualifications include an MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Anatomic Pathology or General Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

·       Effective communication, skills in quality assurance, operational efficiency, and appropriateness of care.

·       Ability to work in a dynamic, changing environment that allows for delivery of quality service.

·       Ability to balance service and quality imperative in a resource-sensitive environment.

Ability to work collaboratively, building trust in working relationships, and being an overall team player.
