The ZCDH is an important role, required under the medical staff bylaws and rules. Principal responsibilities relate to the day- to-day running of the department and working with operational staff to deliver high quality, safe patient care. This medical leadership roles reports to the Zone Medical Director.
Although the ZCDH has a number of formal responsibilities under the bylaws, perhaps the most important part of their work is developing a culture of collaboration between department members, between the department and operational staff, and with other departments to ensure delivery of high quality and safe patient care. The ZCDH, together with operational leadership, is responsible for planning and provision of Emergency Medicine (EM) services throughout Central Zone.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish a Dyad relationship with the primarily with the RDRH Director for Emergency Services establish co-leadership positions with Rural Directors or other appropriate operational leader responsible for Emergency Services
- Collaborate with ZCDFC and operational staff on emergency department flow
- Work with operational and zonal medical staff to develop Integrated Operations Committee workflows that support ED flow
- As a Medical Leader, develop a vision for the provision of Emergency medicine at RDRH and in Central Zone with the collaboration of the respective dyad partners. The ED ZCDH is expected to be a foundational stakeholder for initiatives regarding the provision of emergency medicine.
- Co-Chair the CenZ Emergency Steering Committee
- Performance evaluation
- Academic Liaison
- Assigning duties and responsibilities to members of the Zone Clinical Department.
- Performing all other duties assigned by the AHS Bylaws and Rules or other duties delegated by the Central Zone Medical Director.
- Provide input into and assist with the development of the AHS Zone Physician Resource Plan.
- Provide input and support for the development of Central Zone medical/clinical policies, standards, protocols, and expected service outcomes and performance measures.
- Active participation in and encouragement of participation in disaster management/job action policies and activities.
Required Qualifications
- Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (EM) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in EM. In addition, the applicant must have:
- Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including three years of leadership capacity in clinical services or healthcare operations
- A successful record of achievement as a leader, including experience in improvement and innovation in service delivery and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
- The candidate must licensure with or be eligible with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
