Primary Site: Marian and Jim Sinneave Summit Centre for Youth Resilience

Clinics: Tallman Family Treatment Services and Owerko Family Walk In Services

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

    This physician will report to the Clinical Medical Director of the Summit Centre and Section Chief Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

    The position will require 0.3 FTE commitment to Tallman Family Treatment Services and 0.2 FTE commitment to Owerko Walk In Services

Expectation from Psychiatry:

    Psychiatric Assessments for patients at both family treatment service and walk in.

    Psychiatric follow up for patients in the family treatment service as needed while family enrolled in program.

Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings for clinical care planning and service delivery.

    Prompt urgent electronic charting is expected.

    Physician must be well versed with electronic health record systems (Connect Care and Netcare.)

    Providing teaching opportunities to Child and Youth Psychiatric Specialty trainees, Psychiatry residents and medical students if present.

    Providing call coverage approximately once per month at Alberta Children’s Hospital

QUALIFICATIONS

    FRCPC qualifications in Psychiatry with accredited training in Child Psychiatry. FRCPC in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent other qualification will be preferred.

    Ability to manage a broad range of psychiatric medications.

    Knowledge of common investigations needed to diagnose and treat common psychiatric conditions. Medically, patients admitted to this program will be stable, with little risk of rapid medical decompensation. Patients may require medical support for an ongoing therapy, medication management, or further diagnostics or investigation. Mental Health supports would include psychiatry evaluation and treatment, family counselling and therapy.  Treatments might include medication management, group and individual therapy sessions.  Other supporting disciplines for this patient population may require support from Social Work, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Music Therapists, Speech Therapists, Child Life Specialists and Dieticians

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
