Alberta Health Services is currently recruiting a fully licensed physician to provide coverage to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) level II at the Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH), Misericordia Community Hospital (MCH) and the Grey Nuns Community Hospital (GNCH). The physician’s role involves working under the guidance of an attending Neonatologist and responding to issues in the delivery room. It’s a co-management model where the Neonatologist is the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) but the Clinical Associate is responsible for clinical management under his/her scope of practice.
The hours of coverage are (on-site):
· Weekdays: Monday to Friday: 0800-1600; 1600-0800; 0800-2000; 2000-0800
· Weekends and Stat Holidays: 0800-1600; 1600-0800; 0800-2000; 2000-0800
Daily duties include rounds, neonatal resuscitation, procedures, ongoing management, and discharges in the NICU.
Physicians must be eligible for independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, appropriate Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage, and NRP certification. Applicants must have completed Canadian Pediatrics residency training. Applicants must have current experience in the clinical management of level 2 NICU patients (32 weeks gestation and above), advanced neonatal resuscitation, and procedures notably intubation, umbilical venous line insertion, and needle thoracocentesis.
Eligibility for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta is essential. This position will not support a practice readiness assessment.
