Qualifications

 

Clinical responsibilities will include completing emergency department and inpatient consults, admissions, providing and documenting assessments and active management of inpatients, performing minor procedures and completing discharge summaries, in collaboration with the surgical team. When opportunities arise, teaching of medical students and residents is also an asset.  Clinical Associates will be expected to work 4 to 6 shifts/month.  Shifts are generally 12-hours long and are available throughout the week, including weekends and statutory holidays.

Specific Deliverables:

 

Acute Care Coverage

1. Respond to pages in a timely fashion.

2. Perform handover at the beginning and end of a shift with the residents, attending staff and any other members of the surgical team, as required.

3. You are not the most responsible physician (MRP) for any of these surgical patients and you will review their care with the attending Surgeon.

4. Assess and manage surgical consults from the emergency room and from inpatient units for the surgical service you are covering.

5. Provide pre- and post-operative care for inpatients on the surgical service you are covering.

6. Assist in the operating room as needed under the supervision of the attending physician.

7. Document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record.

8. Collaborate with other house staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals in the delivery of care.

9. Any other duties and responsibilities delegated by the most responsible physician for the specific patient and to which you have the knowledge, skill and judgement to perform.

10. You will provide patient care only in those areas of medical practice where the delegating physician provides patient care.

 

Surgical Assisting

1. Assist in the operating room under the supervision of the attending physician.

2. You are not the most responsible physician (MRP) for these surgical patients.

3. Provide pre- and post-operative care for the patients while in the operating room.

4. Document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record as required by the attending surgeon.

5. Collaborate with nursing staff and allied health professionals in the delivery of care within the operating room setting.

6. Any other duties and responsibilities delegated by the most responsible physician for the specific patient and to which you have the knowledge, skills, and judgement to perform, within the operating room setting.

 

 

Remuneration

 

Fee-For-Service or Family Physician cARP.

Term: 1 year
