Job Description:
The Specialist in Internal Medicine provides comprehensive medical care to adult patients, diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic diseases. This role involves clinical assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Perform thorough medical evaluations, histories, and physical examinations.
Diagnose and manage complex medical conditions, including cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, renal, and gastrointestinal disorders.
Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
Order, interpret, and analyze diagnostic tests such as laboratory results, imaging studies, and ECGs.
Provide preventive care and counseling on lifestyle modification and risk factor management.
Refer patients to subspecialists when indicated and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
Manage inpatient and outpatient cases, including medical emergencies.
Administrative and Professional Duties
Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.
Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and best practices.
Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical students.
Engage in continuing medical education and stay updated on advancements in internal medicine.
Research and Education (Optional, depending on setting)
Conduct or participate in clinical research and contribute to scholarly publications.
Provide lectures and training sessions for medical staff or academic institutions.
Qualifications:
Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree.
Training: Completed residency in Internal Medicine from an accredited program.
Certification: Board-certified or eligible in Internal Medicine
Licensure: Valid medical license to practice in Alberta, Canada or be able to obtain, CPSA eligibility letter if deemed eligible for PRA licencing route
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of post-residency clinical experience preferred.
Skills:
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMRs).
Commitment to patient-centered care and ethical medical practice.
