The Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the dual appointed roles of Divisional Director (Division of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry), and Zone Section Chief (Thoracic Surgery).
The Division and Zone Clinical Section of Thoracic Surgery in Edmonton, Alberta, is composed of 6 clinicians and faculty members renowned for innovative clinical care, research, and teaching. These activities take place on the campus of the University of Alberta, and at Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health sites.
The position requires an individual with a strong reputation for leadership who will lead with excellence within the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services. Reporting to the Chair, Department of Surgery, the Divisional Director is responsible for the management and leadership necessary to promote successful academic endeavors. Responsibilities include leadership support to the Chair in areas such as strategic planning and administration, academic and clinical programming, and fostering internal and external divisional and zonal relationships. The Divisional Director is a part-time role and will comprise an administrative portion of assigned duties.
The Zone Section Chief provides leadership support to the Zone Clinical Department Head, the Facility Site Section Chiefs, Section Leads, Facility Medical Directors, senior leaders and allied professionals in order to ensure appropriate and quality care through the efficient use of resources and will be responsible for the development of quality and safety initiatives.
The position has an expected start date of approximately October 1, 2024, and an expected term of five years, renewable for another five-year term following a successful review.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must be a Thoracic Surgeon eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta, who is recognized for his or her clinical acumen and dedication to quality care as well as scholarly accomplishment in research and education. Preference will be given to individuals with administrative experience in an academic and clinical setting.
