Responsibilities/Duties:
Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Emergency Medicine Physicians to join the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Edmonton Zone. There are up to two FTE total (0.5 or 1.0 FTE) in permanent and/or 1 year locum positions available with a start date of July 01, 2026.
Shifts will be 8 hours, covering days/evenings/nights/weekends. A full-time schedule generally represents 12-14 clinical shifts per month. Although not required, our ideal candidate could also be supported to take part in our hospital care team roster (inpatient care), community family medicine, endoscopy anesthesia and surgical assist.
The Leduc Community hospital, located 20 kilometers south of Edmonton, provides a range of acute and outpatient care including 24-hour emergency services, surgical care, rehabilitation programs, laboratory services, and diagnostic imaging (including CT, Ultrasound and X-ray)
All Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Applicants are expected to participate in education of trainees and are encouraged to apply for Clinical Academic Colleague appointments in the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine.
Qualifications:
The candidate will have exceptional communication skills and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be considered a strong clinician by their peers.
The successful applicant will have, or be eligible for, certification in Emergency Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada or the College of Family Physicians Canada (FRCPC or CCFP-EM) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Residents must be eligible to write the appropriate exam at the next sitting. Family physicians with CCFP certification and emergency medicine experience in a rural setting will also be considered.
ACLS, PALS and NRP competency are required.

All physicians hired to the Department of Emergency Medicine are required to have current ACLS and PALS certification or certification must be completed within 6 months of hire.
Salary/Benefits:
Remuneration is fee-for-service.
