Endocrine/General Surgeon

The Section of General Surgery, Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine, invite applications for a General Surgeon with fellowship training in Endocrine Surgery.  The successful candidate will join a 17-member Division of General Surgery at the Foothills Medical Centre, an 1100+ inpatient bed tertiary care academic hospital.  The position will be within a collaborative Endocrine Surgery practice group with shared referral base, multi-disciplinary care, specialized clinics, and tumor boards.  The Endocrine Surgery group provides care for patients with surgical disease of the thyroid, parathyroids, adrenal glands and neuro-endocrine tumors. The successful candidate will also participate in general surgery emergency call within the Section of General Surgery at the Foothills Medical Centre is expected (ACESS model of care).

Qualifications include:

1.     MD degree

2.     Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), or equivalent, in General Surgery.

3.     Clinical fellowship training in Endocrine Surgery (preference to fellowships accredited by the AAES or international equivalent) or Surgical Oncology with a primary focus in Endocrine Surgery.

4.     Eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

Preference will be given to candidates with an academic interest in endocrine surgery research or medical education leadership/administration/research (with associated training and/or proven record of accomplishment in education). Those with a primary focus in medical education should submit a teaching dossier and philosophy statement with their application.  The candidate will be expected to apply for a clinical academic appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. They are expected to be involved in teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.
