The Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCNS) at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine (www.ucalgary.ca/dcns/) provides a dynamic, collaborative environment renowned for clinical excellence, research innovation, and outstanding education. DCNS neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, and neuroscientists work closely with colleagues in neuroradiology, neuropathology, and other allied specialties to deliver comprehensive neurologic care.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a full-time, fee-for-service Neurologist with sub-specialty training in headache management to join our collegial team. The successful candidate will offer both headache-focused and general neurology services, benefiting from an established patient base and a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ambulatory Care:
- Provide comprehensive headache and general neurology outpatient consultations and follow-ups at the South Health Centre.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered, evidence-based treatment plans.
- Inpatient & Consultation Services:
- Deliver inpatient neurology services and consultations at up to four adult hospitals in Calgary.
- Participate in approximately 5-7 weeks of service per year, each including a weekend commitment, plus an additional ~2 nights per month on call covering two hospitals.
- Teaching & Academic Engagement:
- Teach and mentor medical students and neurology residents in both clinic and hospital settings.
- Attend and contribute to departmental grand rounds, Division of Neurology meetings, and other academic activities.
- Research & Quality Improvement:
- Participate in clinical research initiatives, contributing to improved patient care and the development of new treatment approaches.
- Engage in quality improvement projects that support ongoing service enhancements and improved patient outcomes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Certification:
- MD (or equivalent), Neurology residency completed, and Specialist Certificate in Neurology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
- Licensure & Expertise:
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the Province of Alberta.
- Sub-specialty training in headache management required.
- Professional Attributes:
- Strong clinical acumen in both headache and general neurology.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to thrive in a multidisciplinary, patient-focused environment.
