Transplant Surgeon

 

Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, Alberta

 

The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services–Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for the position of Transplant Surgeon to work at the Foothills Medical Centre. Qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery, and fellowship training in Transplant Surgery. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta. The position will commence July 1, 2024.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of Transplant Surgery. They must have kidney and pancreas transplant experience in both adult and pediatric patients, encompassing both deceased donor and living donor transplants. Experience in laparoscopic donor nephrectomies and in multi-organ donor procurement for both neurological determination of death (NDD) and donor after cardiac death (DCD) is required. Experience with the National Pair Kidney Exchange Transplant Program is desirable. Experience in vascular access surgery procedures is required.

 

Transplant team members highly value the close collaboration demonstrated in their multidisciplinary clinical care model. As part of the team, the successful candidate will be involved in the kidney and pancreas transplant services and the inpatient transplant surgery and consultation service. Remuneration is through the Calgary Transplant Surgery Clinical ARP. They will also take shared call with the other transplant surgeons, which includes coverage for donor, recipient, and vascular access procedures.

 

The surgeon will be expected to apply for a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine. They will be expected to participate in medical student, resident (general surgery and vascular surgery), and fellow teaching. Clinical research is encouraged.
