Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL), Community Services, is seeking a General or Anatomical Pathologist (with Dermatopathology or Cytopathology training considered an asset) for a full-time opportunity to be located at our Diagnostic and Scientific Centre (DSC) location in Calgary, Alberta. This position will join a group of general and anatomical pathologists, medical microbiologists and clinical chemists providing community laboratory services. The successful candidate is required to have excellent skills in both surgical pathology and dermatopathology.

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS). APL is the sole provider of lab services in the province of Alberta. APL’s focus is on patients first - ensuring the safety, accessibility, and stability of lab services across Alberta. We are supported by expert consultation to assist care providers and users of the service. The depth and breadth of medical expertise results in a premium level of testing quality, service, follow up care, and support to our customers and their patients.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

The General or Anatomical Pathologist must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs. 

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Effective communication, skills in quality assurance and operational efficiency 
  • Ability to work in a dynamic changing environment 
  • Ability to balance service and quality imperative in a resource-sensitive environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and being an overall team player

Candidates must have or be eligible to acquire their Canadian Fellowship in Anatomic or General Pathology and must qualify for licensure in Alberta. Fellowship experience in dermatopathology or cytopathology is an asset. The ability to contribute collegially to the group practice and laboratory operations will be an important factor in candidate selection. The successful incumbent will also be required to obtain the appropriate professional liability coverage.
