Alberta Health Services in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, invites applications for a General Internist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

The University is currently home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff. The Division of General Internal Medicine currently has 38 full time Faculty members working in close collaboration with community-based internists. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in the Edmonton corridor, with consultative services to Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the FFS General Internist consists of the care of acutely ill, adult patients admitted to hospital and the care of outpatients typically seen by internal medicine. This includes attending on the inpatient medicine wards, consulting on non-medical wards, triage of patients referred by the emergency teams, and outpatient clinics. General Internist are also expected to teach trainees (workplace teaching).

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible to be certified in General Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Expertise in point-of-care ultrasound would be considered an asset.
