Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a full time 1.0 FTE General Pathologist at Chinook Regional Hospital (CRH) located in Lethbridge, Alberta. The successful candidate will join a team of 8 laboratory physicians and is required to have excellent skills in surgical pathology and cytopathology. Additional expertise in hematopathology will be considered favorably. CRH is a 280-bed acute care facility and provides a comprehensive service for most specialties and has an onsite cancer centre. Duties include anatomical pathology, bone marrows, and laboratory management; the provision of 1:8 on call coverage, intradepartmental and interdepartmental consultations, and frozen section.
APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory organization providing comprehensive laboratory services and is an independent, but publicly funded, wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS). CRH collaborates closely with APL in Calgary which serves as a specialized tertiary referral centre.
The Chinook Regional Hospital, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has sections of anatomical pathology (including surgical pathology and cytology), hematology, transfusion medicine, biochemistry and microbiology and most testing is performed onsite in Lethbridge. Comprehensive onsite immunohistochemistry is available; 22,000 surgical specimens, 2,600 non-gynecologic cytology specimens and 190 bone marrow biopsy specimens are processed annually.
Job Summary &#CD# Responsibilities
The General Pathologist must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, must provide departmental on call coverage as required, and must occasionally participate in pathology resident teaching.
Qualifications:
Qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in General Pathology or Anatomical Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or by the American Board of Pathology or equivalent certification as determined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
