GENERAL SURGEON – ACUTE CARE SURGERY AND BREAST HEALTH FOCUS

The successful candidate will join a 12-member division of General Surgery at the Peter Lougheed Centre, a 600+ inpatient bed tertiary care hospital and will participate in the dedicated multidisciplinary breast health center at the brand-new AE Childs Cancer Centre, opening summer 2024. The Centre will deliver world class cancer care in a state-of-the-art facility, inclusive of research infrastructure and medical education at the UME and PGME levels.

Qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), or equivalent, in General Surgery, with clinical fellowship training in Acute Care Surgery, and additional training in Breast surgery, and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

The candidate will be expected to apply for a clinical academic appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Preference will be given to Candidates with a strong interest in medical education with preferably a MSc in Medical Education and a proven track record in education. Contributions to trainee supervision, mentorship and teaching will be expected, in addition to an interest in medical education curricula development and medical education leadership. The demonstration of effective teaching, supervision and mentorship in their teaching philosophy statement will be valued from the successful candidate.
