GENERAL SURGEON WITH BARIATRIC AND UPPER GASTROINTESTINAL SURGERY SPECIALTY
PETER LOUGHEED CENTER, Calgary, Alberta
The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services–Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for the position of General Surgeon (with additional training in foregut surgery) at the Peter Lougheed Center. Qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery, and eligibility for licensure in the province of Alberta. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of addition fellowship training in upper GI and bariatric surgery including training/experience in both benign and malignant upper GI disease (including laparoscopic esophagectomy/gastrectomy). Candidate must be a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM). The position will commence on August 1, 2025.
This position is based primarily at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, but the successful candidate may work at other sites within the Calgary Zone. This role will include Acute Care Surgery with equivalent night-time coverage and Elective OR time. The successful applicant will be committed to clinical care delivery and preference will be given to a candidate with an interest in medical app/software development.
The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of General Surgery in the Calgary Zone. The General Surgery program provides service to the City of Calgary and surrounding communities including specialized care such as hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation, general surgical oncology, head and neck surgery, endocrine surgery, trauma, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, breast surgery and minimally invasive surgery.
The surgeon will be expected to apply for a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery and to participate in medical student and resident teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in or support ongoing research initiatives within the section.
