Chinook Regional Hospital and surrounding Alberta Health Service Area are looking for a Geriatrician or Care of the Elderly Physician to join our team in sunny South Alberta.
Chinook Regional Hospital is an acute care facility based in the city of Lethbridge. The facility has 270+ beds including 20 ICU beds and 25 Geriatric Beds, as well as 24/7 Emergency department, and provides a wide range of clinical services. The Department of Geriatrics currently comprises of 1 Geriatrician and 2 Care of the Elderly Physicians. The hospital and Geriatric Medicine Department are affiliated with the Universities of Alberta, Calgary, and Lethbridge, and offer opportunities for clinical practice, as well as teaching and academic research. Our Care of the Elderly Physician holds an academic post with University of Alberta and actively participates in teaching and training of medical students, and Family Medicine residents.
This is a full-time permanent position (1.0FTE) expanding existing geriatric services with an already active specialized interdisciplinary geriatric outpatient team and an inpatient consultation service.
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Provide in-patient comprehensive geriatric assessments for hospitalized patients and patients admitted to the Geriatric Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit in collaboration with our multi-disciplinary team members.
- Participate in the development of strategic and operational plans for future Senior Friendly care (frailty informed care, transitions in care, pressure injury prevention, etc.) through local and provincial quality improvement initiatives and programs.
- Work as a consultant within the well-established outpatient multi-disciplinary Psychogeriatric Team (PGC). Offer CGAs and longitudinal care for complex older adults with a variety of presenting issues (Dementia, Parkinson’s Polypharmacy, Falls, etc.).
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including Homecare teams to provide Rural outreach to the extensive network of Community Hospitals and Continuing Care Facilities
- Participate in a Geriatric on-call schedule.
- Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.
- Reside in and have as primary residence Lethbridge or surrounding area.
- Involvement in teaching and supporting medical students and residents from Universities of Alberta, Calgary, and Lethbridge.
- Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or be eligible for Certification with Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or.
- Care of the Elderly Fellowship from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
- Must have or be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
