Alberta Health Services is inviting applications from General Pediatricians or Family Medicine Physicians with inpatient pediatric experience to join the Pediatric Inpatient Unit 201 - Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The Glenrose Pediatric Unit 201 is a 10-bed, 24-hour care program for inpatients and day-patients requiring intensive rehabilitation (maximum patient load of 14; 10 inpatient beds and 4 day-patient spots). Unit 201 receives pediatric inpatients from the Stollery Children’s Hospital (STO) medical and surgical population to improve access to acute care beds and provide required specialized rehabilitation services.
Responsibilities/Duties
· Clinical duties include serving as MRP for all patients on assigned service for 7-day blocks, including evening, night, weekend and holiday on-call coverage. Total weeks of service is flexible, with a minimum of 4 weeks during the six-month period.
· Clinical management for pediatric inpatients with a wide range of conditions and requiring specialized rehabilitation services.
· Daily rounds on all patients, accepting patients transferred for admission,
· Regular and as-needed communication & collaboration with patients, parents/guardians, nursing staff, and rehabilitation-focused interdisciplinary provider team.
· Consult and initiate patient transfers to acute care via RAAPID (Referral, Access, Advice, Placement, Information & Destination) as clinically indicated
· Attend weekly NP-led multi-discipline team rounds, family conferences and interdisciplinary conferences
· Ensure timely documentation within Connect Care in accordance with AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules
· Comprehensive discharge planning including timely communication with community providers
Other duties include:
· Supervision of medical learners involved in Unit 201 patient care and contributing to nursing/interdisciplinary education on an ad hoc basis
· Active engagement in Quality and Safety initiatives with Unit 201 Medical Lead and Program Manager

Qualifications:
Interested applicants must hold an MD and either (1) FRCPC (Pediatrics) or equivalent or (2) completed a two year Family Medicine Residency and must currently be certified with the College of Family Physicians of Canada
We are particularly interested in candidates who have superior interpersonal skills with demonstrated commitment to teamwork, process building and peer relationships. They should have experience in providing high-quality, family-centred care to a diverse range of pediatric patients in the inpatient setting. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of Child Health or Family Medicine.
The successful candidate must have at least 12 months of independent clinical practice experience in Canada or additional postgraduate training following completion of their General Pediatrics or Family Medicine residency. They must have medical licensure in the province of Alberta and be in good standing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta or be eligible for licensure in Alberta.
This position is NOT eligible for AHS sponsorship of a College of Physicians and Surgeons Practice Readiness Assessment.
