Recovery Alberta invites applications for the role of Medical Director, Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program in Edmonton.
Announced in March 2025, the new Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program (ACARP) will provide addiction medicine consultation and treatment supports in five hospitals in Edmonton and Calgary. The goal of ACARP is to offer supports and services to individuals suffering from addiction so that they may pursue recovery.
The Medical Director is accountable for the planning, implementation, and delivery of ACARP services at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) and University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton and future sites under the ACARP expansion in Edmonton. This role involves:
Direct supervision of the clinical team
Ensuring adherence to protocols, healthcare regulations and standards
Ensuring high-quality, safe, innovative and evidence-informed standards of care that achieve positive health outcomes
Designing and implementing efficiencies, developing best practices and establishing standards of practice
Working closely with other medical and operational leaders to engage stakeholders in future development and expansion of the program.
Managing on site scheduling across all Edmonton sites to ensure continuity of care along with helping create a local, robust local virtual on call service that can be expanded across the North of the Province
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of addiction medicine to effectively manage the complexities of addiction services and treatment. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with experience in medical leadership and be considered a strong clinician by peers.
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency.
The successful applicant will preferably be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Addiction Medicine and/or a Certificate of Added Competence in Addiction Medicine by College of Family Physicians of Canada and/or Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine certification or equivalent.
In addition, the successful applicant shall:
Have experience in provision of treatment of addiction and mental health;
Have evidence of formal administrative education and training;
Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment.

Reporting Relationship:
The practitioner will report to the Provincial Medical Director, ACARP.
Term:
Start November 1, 2025.

Additional Information:
This position is 0.3FTE.
Remuneration is in accordance with CMO Policy for contracted medical leadership positions.
