Assisted Living Alberta is committed to providing services based on the population needs of Assisted Living and promoting a shared responsibility for improved health.
The Contractor shall ensure the Practitioner provides, and the Practitioner shall provide services to Edmonton in Family Medicine.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES (GENERAL):
Responsible for:
Annually meeting with Facility Clinical Department Section Chiefs to:
- Review performance for the previous year;
- Establish shared objectives for the upcoming year; and
- Ensure objectives are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound.
Assisting the CDL in evaluating the performance of medical staff in accordance with policy and Medical Staff By-laws, rules and regulations in co-operation with the Facility Medical Directors and Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry where applicable
Quality Management: Ensure standards of care and defined health outcomes are being achieved within their Section. This should include:
- Ongoing monitoring of the quality of clinical/medical practice;
- Ensuring effective processes and mechanisms are in place to encourage best practices and improve clinical outcomes/quality;
- Functioning as a strong advocate for sound medical/clinical practice;
- Participating on internal steering committee for evaluation;
Participating in evaluations.
Academic Liaison: Ensure effective support at the site level for teaching and research where appropriate including:
- Liaison with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry for planning, recruitment, monitoring and evaluation;
- Participating on recruitment and selection of joint academic/Edmonton medical and scientific staff; and
Ensuring mutually supportive relationships between Edmonton clinical programs and the Faculty of Medicine clinical departments.
Patient Safety: Ensuring that Clinical Department policies regarding quality of patient care and safety are developed and implemented.
Recommending Medical Staff Appointments and Clinical Privileges, as well as changes to Appointments and Clinical Privileges to the Clinical Department Lead;
Academic Liaison: Ensure effective support at the site level for teaching and research where appropriate including:
- Liaison with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry for planning, recruitment, monitoring and evaluation;
- Participating on recruitment and selection of joint academic/Edmonton medical and scientific staff; and
- Ensuring mutually supportive relationships between Edmonton clinical programs and the Faculty of Medicine clinical departments.
- Assist the CDL in evaluating the performance of medical staff in accordance with policy and Medical Staff By-laws, rules and regulations in co-operation with the Facility Medical Directors and Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry where applicable.
- Recommend Medical Staff Appointments and Clinical Privileges, as well as changes to Appointments and Clinical Privileges to the Clinical Department Lead;
- Assigning duties and responsibilities to members of the Clinical Section and promote and represent the activities of the Clinical Section.
- Supervise the clinical work of all Clinical Section members.
- Perform Triggered Initial Assessments and Triggered Reviews as delegated by the Clinical Department Lead pursuant to Part 6 of the Bylaws.
- Deal with on-site accreditation issues, teaching standards, and Royal College requirements.
- Promote educational programs and develop/promote departmental research activities for Clinical Section members and other staff associated with the Clinical Section.
- Regularly attend Clinical Department Executive Committee meetings including a minimum of at least three of the following five meetings - January, March, May, September and November.
- Act as a designate for the Clinical Department Lead for those duties assigned to the Clinical Department Lead.
- Supportive of:
• Effective medical management structure, and quality and utilization initiatives for the clinical area.
• Dealing with physician performance/discipline issues.
• Ensure compliance on the part of site medical staff with Medical Staff By-laws.
• Support coordination role by maintaining effective liaison with Councils and other Site Medical Leaders.
• Active participation in and encouragement of participation in Accreditation activities.
Consulted on:
• Resolve disputes within and across clinical service areas and disciplines.
• Deal with medical legal issues including ongoing scanning to identify potential problems; and the provision of advice to legal counsel as required for specific cases/files.
• Provide input into and assist with the development of the Physician Resource Plan.
• Provide input and support for the development of Edmonton zone medical/clinical policies, standards, protocols, and expected service outcomes and performance measures.
• Active participation in and encouragement of participation in disaster management/job action policies and activities.
The successful candidate will hold a CCFP or FRCPC designation and be eligible for a Medical Staff appointment with Alberta Health Services. Clinical and leadership experience managing the care of seniors across the continuing care spectrum will be beneficial.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
