Alberta Health Services invites applications for the position of Medical Director, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID).
The Medical Director serves as a resource for physicians and other staff or clinicians who have questions or require guidance on policies, processes, protocols legislation, regulatory advice or directives related to MAID.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
In a competent and professional manner, the contractor will:
· Be the primary point of contact for Alberta Hospital & Surgical Health Services (HSHS), Alberta Justice, and other government health ministries related to MAID;
· Participate in the Regulatory Review Committee or successor on behalf of AHS;
· Oversee the evolution of the MAID program in Alberta as it pertains to AHS;
· Oversee and support ongoing program maintenance;
· Addresses physician issues with MAID that are more provincial in nature and/or not otherwise dealt with at Corridor level;
· Provide Corridor medical supervision and leadership, including with requests for privileging, when Corridor medical leadership is not available for MAID;
· Participate in and/or lead provincial navigator meetings and other working groups that may from time to time be required;
· Oversee required reporting including, but not limited to, approving the quarterly report to Health Canada as delegated;
· Be the point of contact for Health Information Management (HIM) for data enquiries related to MAID;
· Be the point of contact for research enquiries related to MAID data;
· Be the primary media contact for the AHS MAID program in Alberta;
· Provide presentations to external stakeholders (e.g. Rounds, conferences, public);
· Liaise with other provincial and territorial jurisdictions including Health Canada as required; and
· Be the point of contact for other jurisdictions wishing to learn about the Alberta program.
Qualifications and Required Attributes:
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency and will obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment.

Reporting Relationship:
The Medical Director, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) will report to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, Medical Staff Workforce, Academic Medicine & Strategic Partnerships.

• Remuneration is based on CMO Policy 01-01.
