Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Medical Lead, Frequent Emergency Department (ED) Visitors Program.
This 0.40 FTE position reports directly to the Edmonton Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH), Emergency Medicine.
The Medical Lead, Frequent Emergency Department Visitors Program provides clinical leadership and strategic direction for an interdisciplinary team designed to improve care for patients who present frequently to the Emergency Department with complex medical, mental health, and social needs.
This role champions coordinated, patient-centered approaches that reduce repeat presentations, improve outcomes, and strengthen integration between acute, community, and primary care sectors.
The position has an expected start date of approximately January 1, 2026 and an expected term of 1 year with the possibility of extension.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.
The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, have demonstrated supervisory experience and be an excellent clinician with the respect of their peers.
Candidates must possess a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPSC) fellowship, or equivalent designation, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
The successful candidate should have demonstrated a pattern of professional and personal development.
Unique Characteristics:
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine. 
- Demonstrated experience in quality improvement, program development, or clinical leadership. 
- Strong understanding of complex patient populations (mental health, addictions, chronic disease, social determinants of health). 
- Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and collaborate across sectors. 
- Excellent communication, change management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
