This role is a senior leadership position and is responsible for providing medical input and overview for Quality Improvement across Central Zone.
The successful candidate will work with operational leadership in strategic service planning for the delivery of quality improvement across the Zone. This is a key position for review of adverse events and QAC activities in the Zone. This medical leader champions QPS and engages/coaches physicians in just culture and physician knowledge, participation in QPS initiatives to improve care processes and culture. This role reports to and supervised by the Zone Medical Director.
Main Responsibilities:
- Act as the Medical Staff Zone representative on the Medical Staff Engagement in Quality Working Group (MSEQWG).
- Advise on and engage critical Medical staff support for defining and carrying out meaningful system and patient care improvements focusing on the six dimensions of quality, accessibility, acceptability, efficiency, appropriateness, effectiveness, and safety.
- Identify opportunities and barriers to Medical Staff engagement in Quality work at all levels (local, zone, provincial).
- Review and advise on best practices and models from other leading healthcare organizations to gain further insight into Medical Staff integration in Quality Work.
- Review and consider best practices identified in the literature and from other leading organizations regarding Medical Staff
Engagement and Medical Staff leadership in Quality. - Attend scheduled meetings (may require additional preparation time), participate in the development and implementation of the consultation plan, and as required, consult with Associates and colleagues within the respective zones for input and feedback.
- Collaborate with the Zone Leadership, medical leads, frontline physicians and staff by leading and focusing the work of Integrated Quality Management as a catalyst to achieving high quality patient care and patient safety.
- Lead and facilitate physician participation in key quality initiatives as defined by Zone Leadership.
- Lead and facilitate a model of open communication between physicians and the healthcare team, ensuring there is a shared inter-professional responsibility.
In collaboration, develop and facilitate education for physicians about their roles and responsibilities in Integrated Quality Management including but not limited to quality improvement, patient safety, just culture and patient flow. - Collaborate with physician groups to work through issues and challenges and make recommendations for improvements to quality processes.
- Foster front line physician participation in quality improvement opportunities including supporting proposals for CMO Quality Projects.
- Foster the development of Unit Quality Councils and provide regular progress reports on physician engagement with the Councils.
Required Qualifications:
- Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
- The candidate must have licensure with or be eligible with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills, ability to mentor and coach medical staff and other team members, passion for patient safety and the ability to cultivate positive relationships are all considered assets for this position.
