Job Summary:
The Medical Lead, Virtual Opioid Dependency Program (VODP), Narcotic Transition Services (NTS) and Supervised Consumption Services will provide medical leadership ensuring care provision that is compliant with the Mental Health Service Protection Act (MHSPA), the Mental Health Services Protection Regulation (MHSPR) and aligning Standards including the Community Protection and Opioid Stewardship (CPOS) Standards, the Recovery Oriented Supervised Consumption Services (ROSCS) Standards, and the Residential Addiction Treatment Services (RATS) Standards.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
Provide medical leadership and oversight of services provided, including:
Virtual Opiod Dependency Program (VODP)
Narcotic Transition Services (NTS)
Supervised Consumption Services (SCS/OPS)
Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with clinical expectations/standards of practice for physicians.
Develop and enact a physician workforce plan for the physicians’ providing services in the program.
Work collaboratively to enact physician compensation models that support the recruitment and retainment of addiction medicine physicians.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships to align priorities, address gaps, and coordinate service delivery to ensure delivery of quality, innovative, and efficient health services:
Work in close partnership with other VODP medical and operational leaders.
Engage with a variety of stakeholders external to Recovery Alberta.
Provide clinical and operational leadership to ensure high-quality, safe, innovative and evidence-informed standards of care that ensure defined health outcomes are being achieved.
Lead or participate in evaluation, quality improvement, and research activities.
Qualifications and Required Attributes:
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency and shall have or be eligible for certification with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and shall have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Addiction Medicine and/or a Certificate of Added Competence in Addiction Medicine by College of Family Physicians of Canada and/or Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine certification or equivalent is preferred.
In addition, the successful applicant shall have:
Experience in provision of treatment of addiction and mental health;
The practitioner will obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment.
Preferably applicants will have experience providing virtual addiction care.

Reporting Relationship:
The practitioner will report to the Senior Medical Lead, Addiction Medicine

Remuneration is based on CMO Policy 01-01.
