The Department of Anesthesiology Perioperative and Pain Medicine, Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone, invites applications for the position of Medical Leader, Patient Blood Management Program. The starting date for this position will be July 1, 2025. Champion Peri-operative hemoglobin optimization in the Calgary Zone. Serve as coordinator in accepting, evaluating and triaging all referrals for blood management alternatives in Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone for surgical procedures. Supervise the work of the Patient Blood Management Program nursing team. Liaise with Transfusion Medicine and laboratory medicine and participate in Calgary Zone Transfusion Committee. Provide Quality review expertise for blood product management. Provide transfusion reports for surgeons, proceduralists and individual surgical /procedural specialties. Advise ZCDH regarding transfusion issues and support transfusion medicine education for the dept APPM. Explore other alternatives to allogenic transfusion for Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone including antifibrinolytic agents. Provide a report annually of the Patient Blood Management Program to the Zone. Qualifications:
Applicants must be a qualified MD or equivalent, with specialist certification in anesthesiology, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta for independent anesthesia care. The successful Candidate will have their FRCPC in Anesthesia; have demonstrated the ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team; superior interpersonal communication skills; and a strong commitment to delivering innovative anesthetic care. Desired competencies include Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support.
