Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a qualified Anatomical / General Pathologist with Molecular Pathology Fellowship for a full-time position located at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will join a team of 95+ laboratory physicians and scientists working mostly at an acute care institution with a smaller group of pathologists.  Participation in a multi-site anatomic pathology on-call rotation is expected.

APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory providing comprehensive laboratory services. APL (Calgary Zone) processes 30+ million tests, 260,000 surgical specimens, 200,000 gynecologic cytology specimens, and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in a setting with a similar case complexity.  APL is a publicly funded and wholly owned subsidiary corporation of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and is party to an affiliation agreement with the University of Calgary (UofC) Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) in the Cumming School of Medicine.  The DPLM and APL offer residency-training programs in Anatomic Pathology, General Pathology, Neuropathology and Medical Microbiology, as well as Fellowship training in subspecialty areas within Anatomic Pathology, Hematopathology and Clinical Biochemistry.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
The position requires maintaining the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching.

The successful applicant will be involved in the diagnostic activity across sites in the Calgary region and is expected to become an active zonal consultant in her/his area(s) expertise and interact with the clinical stakeholders in her/his area(s). In addition to a specialty or sub-specialty practice, participation in an on-call rotation is expected. Comprehensive molecular pathology training is an asset for recruitment.

Minimum qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta with certification in Anatomic Pathology or General Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Pathology. Fellowship training in Molecular Pathology is required for this position, and preference will be given to those candidates who are board-eligible or board-certified in molecular pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Primary duties will include molecular pathology sign-out, but additional opportunities for shared Anatomical/Subspeciality Pathology sign-out may be considered depending on the candidate.  International applicants meeting criteria for Alberta licensure are encouraged to apply (including J1 VISA holders), as this position is eligible for immigration sponsorship.
