Alberta Health Services and the Department of Neurology at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, welcomes applications for a Neurologist to establish a full-time practice in the southern community of Medicine Hat, Alberta.

The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH) is an acute care facility, which also includes sub-acute/restorative care beds serving Southeast Alberta with a catchment population of ~110,000. MHRH has 246 acute care beds, 30 geriatric beds, 10 ICU beds and 7 NICU bassinets. MHRH is an accredited Level 3 Trauma Centre providing coverage in Pediatrics, Geriatrics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Urology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery and Cancer services.

Community Information:

The City of Medicine Hat is a warm, vibrant, feel-good city, with the beautiful natural backdrop to match. It has an increasing population of now 67 909 citizens, with a median age of 42 and a workforce of 20 000 people between the ages of 20-44. With the city conveniently situated on the Trans-Canada Highway, access to these primary roadways makes travel to major cities easy, with options for shuttle transport and railways as well. The local Regional Airport also provides daily flights serviced by WestJet, and private charters. Anchored by the broad South Saskatchewan River, carved coulees, and rolling prairies, the city is well connected by beautiful pathways throughout. As the sunniest place in Canada, the skies are often filled with beautiful sunrise and sunsets.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Establish and maintain a full-time General Neurology practice in the community of Medicine Hat; a full-time practice is defined as providing clinical activities at least (5) days per week, a minimum of forty (40) hours per week; and/or providing commensurate shifts in keeping with other full-time practice FTEs as assigned by the medical leader responsible for the area of clinical service. 
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient neurology services within AHS facilities and within the community of Medicine Hat. 
  • Provide Neurology on-call support as per AHS's on-call schedules and expectations applicable to the South Zone Clinical Department of Medicine practices or as may otherwise be established or directed by an appropriate Medical Leader
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the services. Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
  • Establish a primary residence in the community of Medicine Hat or immediate surrounding area.  
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues as a member of the ZCD of Medicine at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in support of patient care.  
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Medicine including (without limitation) achievement of certain performance indicators as determined by AHS, exercising its discretion reasonably. 

  

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application)
  • Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC)
  • Must have or be eligible for FRCPC or equivalent with a Fellowship in Neurology. 
  • Must have recent and relevant experience (within 2 years) in all areas of practice required, where the candidate has been the Most Responsible Physician
