Description: The Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCNS) at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, is seeking an experienced Neurologist with expertise in managing epilepsy patients and working in a large epilepsy program. Our team includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, and neuroscientists who collaborate daily with neuroradiologists and neuropathologists. We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion and seek a neurologist who will provide high-quality care in both ambulatory and inpatient settings while actively participating in academic activities such as quality improvement rounds and grand rounds.
Key Responsibilities: As the Program Director for the Adult Calgary Epilepsy Program, this role involves overseeing all aspects of clinical, academic, and operational activities related to epilepsy care across multiple sites, ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge, evidence-based care. Responsibilities include:
- Clinical Oversight: Manage epilepsy services across multiple hospitals, including outpatient clinics, seizure monitoring units, and EEG labs, ensuring efficient and effective care delivery.
- Epilepsy Surgery Program: Lead and collaborate with specialists to assess and manage surgical candidates, optimizing care for epilepsy surgery patients.
- Program Development & Quality Assurance: Establish clinical benchmarks, review protocols, and implement modern technologies to improve patient outcomes.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with neuropsychiatrists, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, and allied health teams to ensure comprehensive epilepsy care.
- Resource Management: Ensure appropriate allocation of resources for advanced diagnostic tools, including continuous video-EEG, intracranial EEG, and neuromodulation.
- Education & Mentorship: Mentor epilepsy fellows, neurology residents, and junior faculty, preparing them for certification exams and ensuring professional growth.
- Research & Academic Leadership: Promote research within the Calgary Epilepsy Program, advancing clinical trials and interdisciplinary projects in partnership with institutions like the Hotchkiss Brain Institute.
- Collaboration with Pediatric Epilepsy Program: Ensure smooth transitions for patients moving from pediatric to adult care in close collaboration with the pediatric epilepsy team.
Qualifications include an MD, a specialist certificate in Neurology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. We require a neurologist who has demonstrated a record of success in an academic environment, proven clinical excellence, a record of working well within a team, demonstrated organizational, leadership, collaboration and teaching skills are required. Additional training in sleep neurology would be an asset.
The ability to participate fully in the Calgary City-Wide call schedule is required. Must read, write and speak English. All qualified candidates are encourage to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in epilepsy care, particularly within a large epilepsy program.
- Expertise in epilepsy management and surgical care, as well as in clinical leadership.
- Commitment to advancing patient care, education, and research in the field of epilepsy
