Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a full-time clinical service Neuropathologist at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), Calgary Alberta, with residency or fellowship training in Neuropathology. The successful candidate will join a team of 95+ laboratory physicians and scientists working mostly at an acute care institution with a smaller group of pathologists.  Participation in the neuropathology on-call rotation is expected.

APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory providing comprehensive laboratory services.  APL (Calgary Zone) processes 30+ million tests, 260,000 surgical specimens, 200,000 gynecologic cytology specimens, and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually. The Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), one of Canada's largest hospitals, provides advanced healthcare services to more than two million people from Calgary, southern Alberta, southeastern British Columbia, and southern Saskatchewan. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in a setting with a similar case complexity.

APL is a publically funded wholly owned subsidiary corporation of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and is party to an affiliation agreement with the University of Calgary (UofC) Cumming School of Medicine. Based on the qualifications of the applicant, there are opportunities to practice in a sub-specialty environment while participating in clinical and/or basic research activities. Teaching and interaction with a wide range of learners from undergraduate through postgraduate studies including residents from anatomical and general pathology are expected.

 Job Summary & Responsibilities
Neuropathologist must maintain the highest possible standards of practice, including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching. Experience teaching undergraduates or other residents and demonstrating interest in collaborative research is preferred. The service in Calgary includes fetal and pediatric neuropathology, neuromuscular pathology, autopsy neuropathology, and neoplastic neuropathology. The latter requires familiarity with advanced molecular diagnostics.

The Neuropathologist will report directly to the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) Neuropathology Site Chief in Calgary who in turn reports to the Sector Medical Director, South Sector (APL) and the provincial Chief Medical Laboratory Officer.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include an MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification either in Neuropathology or Anatomic Pathology with a Neuropathology Fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Pathology.
