The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone. There will be access to operating time at the Rockyview General Hospital, the new Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (scheduled to open in 2024), and to chartered surgical facilities for scheduled procedures. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the city wide on-call schedule.


Alberta’s ocular oncology service currently provides services to all of Alberta and several adjacent provinces resulting in both tertiary and quaternary care. Training and experience in the treatment of advanced cases, including extension into the ocular adnexa is an asset. There is an expectation to collaborate and support the current ocular brachytherapy team for patient care including combined clinics, regular tumor board meetings, tele-oncology, and brachytherapy.


The current ocular oncology program is an academically driven unit with significant research output and an active fellowship program in the field of orbital disease, oculoplastics, and ocular oncology. Interest and experience in the education of both residents and fellows will be an asset. The selected candidate will be expected to apply for a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and to participate in medical student, resident, and fellowship teaching. They will also be expected to have academic output in the form of research, education, and administration. A track record of significant research productivity is an asset. Currently research opportunities include working with medical students, residents and fellows in Ophthalmology, graduate students in Medical Physics, and working closely with Dr. Ezekiel Weis and Dr. John McWhae. To support and expand the current research team’s strengths, a research interest in imaging as well as early treatment of uveal melanoma is an asset.
