Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon
South Health Campus, Calgary, Alberta
The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone and University of Calgary, Section of Orthopaedic Surgery invite applications for an orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in hand and wrist surgery to work at South Health Campus.
Qualifications include an MD or equivalent, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Orthopaedic Surgery with additional fellowship training in hand and wrist surgery, and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. A second complementary fellowship, such as training in orthopedic elbow surgery, or an advanced post-graduate degree would be advantageous. It is expected that the successful candidate will have a significant academic interest in teaching and research in addition to clinical practice.
The practice will be at the South Health Campus in the Calgary Zone and there will be a major clinical focus in hand, wrist, and elbow surgery. The successful candidate will be assigned a proportional role from within the existing hand surgery call schedule. They will also have the option of participating in the general orthopaedic call schedule. Participation in the Section of Orthopedic committees with administrative, clinical, educational, research or other mandates is required.
The successful candidate will have an appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and academic credentials. They will be expected to participate in research. Duties will include recruiting and entering patients into on-going clinical trials, supervising students, residents, and fellows with their research efforts and initiating new clinical research projects in association with other members of the Division of Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgery. They will also act as a preceptor for students, clinical clerks, residents and fellows, and support undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate medical education.
