Prerequisites for application to this position include full eligibility for independent practice licensure in the province of Alberta as an Orthopaedic Surgeon – this includes recognized medical degree and residency training. Prospective applicants are encouraged to confirm eligibility at cpsa.ca. The successful applicant will also have completed subspecialty training by way of formal fellowship in adult spine surgery.
The Calgary Spine Program is an academic program with a commitment to research and education. The successful applicant will have completed a graduate degree (either Masters or PhD) and be able to demonstrate a consistent record of scholarly productivity as lead or senior author on publications in peer reviewed journals. The Division of Spine Surgery is constantly looking to grow and innovate, and graduate education in a complimentary field not already well-represented within the Combined Spine Program would be an asset. A strong track record of educational activity throughout the applicant’s academic career is essential to a successful candidacy. Members of the Division of Spine Surgery are mandated to participate in training medical students, residents, clinical fellows and research students at all levels. Partnership with the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health is strongly encouraged.
Growth and innovation are essential to all academic programs. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate consistent administrative productivity throughout their education and career through leadership and committee roles, both within the University system and through internationally recognized orthopaedic or spine societies and organizations.
Interested applicants should contact Dr. Fred Nicholls (fred.nicholls@ucalgary.ca) for further information.
