Job Summary:
 

The Physician Builder is a clinical contributor to the design, build, and improvement of the Connect Care Clinical Information System (CIS). Reporting to the Physician Master Builder, the Physician Builder collaborates with fellow builders, Physician Design Leads (PDLs), and Clinical Informaticians to ensure that clinical content and tools within Connect Care support safe, effective, and efficient patient care.
 

This role focuses on applying clinical knowledge to translate prescriber needs into meaningful CIS enhancements, including the development and maintenance of documentation tools, order sets, decision support, and other electronic workflows. Physician Builders help ensure that CIS design aligns with provincial standards and meets the day-to-day needs of clinicians.
 

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
 

In this capacity, the Physician Builder is entrusted with the following responsibilities:
 

System Build and Optimization:

  • Participate in the design, build, testing, and validation of CIS tools such as order sets, documentation templates, and decision support alerts.
  • Apply Epic Physician Builder skills to support the development of safe, usable, and efficient clinical workflows.
  • Collaborate with Digital Health analysts and other informatics team members to deliver high-quality build products.

Collaboration and Engagement:

  • Work with the CMIO office, PDLs, and operational teams to understand clinical needs and incorporate feedback into system improvements.
  • Participate in working groups, project teams, and builder forums to support Connect Care enhancement efforts.
  • Assist with communication and rollout of CIS updates to clinical stakeholders.

Training and Certification:

  • Obtain and maintain Epic Physician Builder certification through the required course(s), including initial and ongoing training as needed.
  • Engage in professional development activities, including participation in user feedback reviews and build review meetings.

Governance and Standards:

  • Align build activities with Connect Care governance decisions and provincial clinical standards.
  • Support change management efforts by participating in readiness and implementation activities, under the guidance of the Master Builder.
  • Conform to all Builder standards and procedures, as defined by the Builder Committee and the Clinical Informatics Standards and Quality Committee.

     

Qualifications and Required Attributes:

  • A seasoned physician with a deep understanding of large-scale transformational change.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of successful program management.
  • Clear communication and presentation skills, coupled with a pragmatic problem-solving approach.
  • Experience in clinical operations and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and medical communities.
  • Proficiency in aligning business practices with organizational objectives and strategies.
  • A visionary who can contribute to the innovation, integration, and consistency of patient-centered clinical care.

 
Reporting Relationship:

The practitioner will report to the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO).

  

FTE: Positions may have a variable FTE between 0.2-0.4 for a total of 0.8 FTE available.

  

Remuneration: Remuneration is in accordance with CMO Policy 01-01.
