Responsibilities/Duties:

 

Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Physician lead, Gynecology Clinic- Sexual Health clinic.

 

This position supports 1 half day clinic per month which is funded through an ARP and reports to the Facility Medical Director of the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital.  

 

The Gynecology Clinic provides cervical screening and other gynecological monitoring for individuals requiring support with transfers and positioning. Visits are conducted with physician and 2 other health professionals to support positioning and transfers and other clinic activities. The primary diagnoses supported by this service include Spinal cord injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, Cerebral palsy, Spina Bifida among others. Referrals to the clinic are provided through the Sexual Health Service at the Glenrose hospital.

 

The duties of the role are as follows:

 

  • Pre-Clinic Preparation
    • Attend clinic times prepared and ready to treat to maximize clinic efficiency
    • Communicate openly and promptly with clinic Nurse coordinator in a reliable method as needed
    •  Provide a predictable and reliable schedule of clinic availability for ease of scheduling.

 

·        Clinic Activities

    • Consult and evaluate patients at the Glenrose Sexual Health Clinic monthly as organized and communicated by the RN coordinator.
    •  Provision of basic gynecologic check-ups and office-based problems. Typical procedures that may need to be performed are:
      • pap smears,
      • IUD insertions and
      • endometrial biopsies 
      • vulvar skin biopsy under local anesthetic
    • Enter orders in Connect Care as per treatment plan
    • Work alongside the team at the Sexual Health Clinic who are accustomed to helping with these

gynecologic exams and positioning.

 

  • Post Clinic
    • Complete all necessary documentation in Connect Care in timely manner.
    • Complete necessary specialist referrals as indicated.
    • Follow up with clinic patients directly as indicated by testing results/clinical need

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities and experience in women’s health and comfort with neurologic diagnoses.   They will be an inclusive and visionary leader, ideally possessing experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers. The successful candidate will also possess superior interpersonal skills and have demonstrated supervisory experience.  The successful candidate also will be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Family Medicine or Women’s Health.

 

Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and eligible for appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.

 

This position is NOT eligible for AHS sponsorship of a College of Physicians and Surgeons Practice Readiness Assessment.
