As a key part of Alberta’s refocused health care system, it is an exciting time to be a change leader within Primary Care Alberta (PCA), as we re-imagine and re-organize healthcare administration and delivery across Alberta to deliver on our mission of an accessible, sustainable health system for all Albertans.
PCA is looking to fill ideally two Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) positions. The ACMO position is an important member of the PCA senior leadership team and reports to the PCA Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Each successful ACMO candidate will be responsible for overseeing the integration and coordination of a complex health delivery model across various functions. The specific portfolio each ACMO carries will be assigned by the CMO and will be influenced by the successful candidate’s experience, knowledge, talents and interest and the PCA’s determination of its priorities. In general, the ACMO portfolios are expected to include:
-
Physician workforce priorities, strategies and tactics;
-
Operational leadership for physician components of PCA operated clinics;
-
Primary Care system planning.
Each ACMO role maintains a strong emphasis on the importance: of quality and patient safety; engagement; and effective relationships between physicians and the health care system, both those parts internal to PCA and external to PCA.
Work location: Negotiable across Alberta.
Full Time Equivalent: Negotiable between 0.5 to 0.7. The ideal candidate will maintain a part time clinical practice concurrently while being an ACMO
Interested candidates should apply on DoctorJobsAlberta.com and upload a CV and a cover letter describing their interest in the role.
The PCA CMO position is currently under recruitment. Given the very close working relationship between an ACMO and CMO, PCA intends to leave the ACMO competition open until after a CMO has been announced. PCA understands if individuals may wish to adjust their applications once the CMO has been announced.
Job Description:
Reporting directly to the CMO of Primary Care Alberta, the ACMO is accountable and responsible for a portfolio of physician related matters and decisions. In general, an ACMO portfolio will be made up of assignments from one or more of the following areas: physician operations; primary care workforce; stakeholder relationships, including academic partners; and/or primary care system planning.
The ACMO contributes to PCA success through strategic planning and tactics to enable the delivery of high quality, safe, patient and family centred care. Depending on the portfolio, the ACMO may be assigned front line medical leaders to oversee. All ACMO positions will be expected to collaborate very effectively with internal and external leaders, within the primary care sector of the Alberta health care system but also within other sectors of the health system.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will be eligible for independent medical licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or an equivalent professional body. The ACMO is expected to obtain and maintain a Medical Staff appointment.
At least four years’ leadership experience in health care is desired, ideally in a multi-clinic or geographically diverse and dispersed context. Experience leading, supporting and assisting in development of medical leaders and experience leading quality & healthcare improvement programs or initiatives.
Additional Required Qualifications
Successful record of achievement as a physician leader. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills and commitment to providing long term quality services. The ability to foster partnerships and achieve organizational goals within a large and complex organization.
