Psychiatrist PES FMC Locum

Mental Health, Recovery Alberta is inviting applications for a psychiatrist to work in Psychiatry Emergency Services at Foothills Medical Centre to provide back-up coverage to the CORE staff group. Shifts available will either be weekday mornings 8h00-12h00, or weekday afternoons 12h00-16h00, or weekend days/holidays 8h00-16h00. Successful applicants will be part of our back-up coverage group and get priority notifications to sign-up for shifts. The role will include covering select shifts for a regular staff's parental leave. 

Job Expectations: 

- Psychiatric Assessments for patients waiting for a unit bed in emergency department (ED) for a unit bed

- Psychiatric Assessment for patients newly referred to PES by the ED physician  

- Participation in handover meetings at 8:00 am and 4:00 pm (by conference call or in person)

- Providing advice to FMC ED physicians and PES staff nursing where required

- Coordinating care and transferring patients to their assigned units and sites

- Responding to calls/pages where needed

- Providing teaching opportunities to resident physicians in Psychiatry, clinical clerks, Family Medicine, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, and other specialties as a part of affiliation with University of Calgary Cummings School of Medicine
