DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will be competent in managing complex and chronic medical conditions and recognize the effects of social determinants of health. They will have demonstrated inclusion for all regardless of nationality, age, gender, sexuality, or means. They will have strong interpersonal skills and work well within a team environment. 

The successful applicant must be comfortable handling all types of emergencies. Previous ER experience is preferred. The VCHC is not a labour and delivery site; however, the successful candidate should also be competent to handle obstetrical emergencies. 

The Vulcan Medical Clinic is located within the VCHC. A major renovation of the VCHC with significant expansion of the Vulcan Medical Clinic was completed in 2020.  The clinic has modern exam, consult, and procedure rooms along with office space and support staff. Vulcan Medical Clinic is member of the Calgary Rural PCN which provides support such as an on-site Primary Care Nurse to assist with chronic disease management and a panel manager, among others.

  • 24/7 Emergency Department
  • 8 acute care beds
  • 15 Long Term Care beds at VCHC, plus an additional 46 beds at Vulcan Extendicare nearby.
  • Onsite Lab, X-ray, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetic Services, Adult Day Support, Home Care, and Public Health
  • Visiting Psychiatrist and Pediatrician

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have current ACLS and ATLS.

  • PALS, NRP, and an obstetrics emergency course (such as ALARM) is strongly recommended.

  • Expected to participate in the Emergency on-call schedule which includes overnight and weekend call shifts.

  • Must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

  • Must read, write and speak English.
