The Section Head will provide leadership and promote further development of the Section of Cardiac Surgery in an academic and a provincial health care system. The responsibilities occupy approximately 20% (FTE 0.2) of the Cardiac Surgeon’s professional time and include recommendations on clinical and/or academic matters within the Section, the Department, AHS, the University, and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. The position focuses on the provision of clinical service, research, teaching, health promotion, disease prevention, and the recruitment and retention of cardiac surgeons to meet clinical and university academic needs in southern Alberta. The Section Head/Section Chief facilitates cardiac surgery education and research in collaboration with the University of Calgary and the promotion of innovation in the delivery of clinical cardiac surgery services. |

Qualifications

Qualifications include an MD with certification in Cardiac Surgery and a proven record of administrative excellence. Eligibility for licensure in cardiac surgery in the Province of Alberta is required. Previous experience in a provincial health care system and administrative experience are assets for the position of Section Head of Cardiac Surgery. January 1, 2025 preferred but is negotiable.
