Primary Care Alberta (PCA) has a rewarding leadership opportunity as the Senior Medical Director – Regional Primary Health Care Networks (SMD). We seek a visionary executive and change leader with senior leadership experience in clinical services and health care operations.
Reporting to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, the SMD provides advice, support and direction related to the transition of Primary Care Networks into Regional Primary Health Care Networks (RPHCN). Responsibilities include the subsequent oversight and management of RPHCN deliverables where mandated to PCA by the Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services
You establish and maintain positive relationships with local, provincial, and national representatives and stakeholders, including government departments and officials. Ongoing support and management with physician perspectives will be required to meet the expectations and timelines of this change.
This 0.3-0.5 FTE position can be located anywhere within Alberta and is eligible for a remote/hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications:
The Senior Medical Director (SMD) - Regional Primary Health Care Networks (RPHCN) works closely with the Executive Director, Regional Primary Care Networks and other operational partners in Primary Care Alberta (PCA) to assist in the transition to a new RPHCN structure and relevant RPCN issues. This will include change management strategies for existing Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and PCN zone committees. Transparent, authentic and respectful engagement with PCN physicians, nurse practitioners, boards, and allied health providers during and after the transition is vital for the success of the transition.
In collaboration with operational leadership, this position assists in managing RPHCN reporting and metrics as directed by PPHS, and supports the recruitment, appointment, onboarding, training, and support of RPHCN governance members under the guidance of PPHS where appropriate.
Additionally, the SMD participates in advisory committees related to RPHCN development, transitions, medical operations and oversight as appropriate and directed by PCA and PPHS, establishing a strong working relationship with RPHCN medical directors and
participate in or lead engagement opportunities with this group. The SMD also provides other supports as needed related to RPHCN structures, integration and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be eligible for independent medical licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or an equivalent professional body. The SMD is expected to obtain and maintain a Medical Staff appointment.
The successful candidate will have at least three (3) years’ experience in a senior leadership role in clinical services or healthcare operations.
Experience leading major change is necessary for the success of this role.
A combination of education, experience and skills may be considered.

This position requires an individual with a successful record of achievement as a leader, including extensive experience in strategic planning and implementation. They possess a demonstrated ability to lead change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues, and are an effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing long term quality services. The ability to foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals within a large and complex organization is required for this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate possesses Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credentials.
