This is a 0.1 FTE leadership position reporting to the Department Head of Clinical Neurosciences and the Section Chiefs of Neurology, Neurosurgery and PMR, as appropriate. Neurological services constitute a majority of current needs at the SHC for this role.
This position is responsible for oversight and coordination of ambulatory and inpatient neurosciences clinical programs at South Health Campus. The role supports approximately 20 neurologists, 5 physiatrists, and neurosurgical services across both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Working closely with the Neurology Section Chief, Neurosurgery Section Chief, PMR Section Chief and DCNS Department Head, the Site Chief ensures continuity of care across sites and promotes excellence in clinical service delivery, staffing, and services demands.
In collaboration with SHC leadership, the Site Chief provides support to the Sections and Department Head for the planning, implementation and evaluation of SHC clinical, educational, research and administrative activities as it relates to their specific department, division or program.
Key Competencies
The successful candidate will demonstrate in collaboration with the respective Section Chiefs:
· Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to implement change, manage patient concerns, and negotiate shared resources among stakeholders
· Experience supporting AHS operational leads in performance monitoring and reporting across clinical programs.
· Commitment to quality improvement (QI) initiatives and support program-level improvement activities in collaboration with the respective Section Chiefs.
· Strong personal effectiveness, vision, and initiative are required to support these programs.
· Ability to work collaboratively with managers and operational leaders at SHC to ensure adequate space, staffing and physician resources for the delivery of excellent, patient centered care in Clinical Neurosciences at SHC in collaboration with the department head and relevant Section Chiefs and Program Leaders.
The Site Chief will attend operational meetings at SHC, coordinates site physician meetings, and supports the needs of the neurology, neurosurgery and PMR programs at SHC where applicable in collaboration with the respective Section Chiefs and Program Leaders, the inpatient neurology service at SHC and the needs of PMR and Neurosurgery as appropriate. In addition, they will meet regularly with unit managers at SHC, and the Section Chiefs (and Program Leaders where appropriate). They are expected to participate in city-wide manager meetings, and Neurology Program Leaders’ meetings and other Section meetings as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
· Communicate physician related issues for SHC to their medical leadership team, operations team and membership (up, down and across organization).
· Collaborate with other Calgary Zone physician leaders including Section & Program Leaders to develop, implement and evaluate new models of medical service delivery at SHC.
· Collaborate with the University of Calgary to develop, implement and evaluate innovative education and research models for SHC as per the Department of Clinical Neurosciences education priorities.
· Champion causes relevant to SHC.
· Accountable for training, orienting physicians to SHC.
· Collaborate with their Department, Division or Program Heads and SHC team to develop, implement and evaluate physician recruitment plan for SHC.
· Participate in monthly Clinical Design Team meetings.
An MD, a specialist certificate in Neurology/PMR/Neurosurgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. Proven clinical excellence, a record of working well within a team, demonstrated organizational, leadership, collaboration, and teaching skills are required. We anticipate that there will be opportunities in administrative and educational leadership associated with this position.
