Alberta Health Services, is currently seeking the services of independently licensed physicians to surgical assist in the Sturgeon Community Hospital. Under the direction of the surgeon, the primary duties of the position will be the provision of surgical assistance during procedures. The surgical assistant is responsible for maintaining aseptic integrity, is a skillful communicator with all members of the OR team and has the ability to lift and position patients and equipment as required.
The successful applicant must be able to bill the Schedule of Medical Benefits/third parties for surgical services provided. The successful applicant is required to take call and have a response time of 30 minutes or less. Rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays are required. Applicants must already hold a current general practice permit with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Surgical Assisting experience in an operating room in one or more of General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Women's Health is preferred.
Notes:
The position will broaden the applicant’s surgical skills in General Surgery, Orthopedics and OBGYN.
The Surgical Assistant will have the flexibility to do service in any of the specialties above and is expected to do mainly day-time elective OR list plus there are plenty of night / weekend coverage shifts if there is interest.
For night call shifts, the site is not reimbursing assists for being on call, the Surgical Assistant is not required to be available on site but need to reach OR in 30 minutes time. The site provides 24/7 on call sleep room for those who prefer to stay.
